New Hygiene Tools Mean Super Cleanliness in the Mouth
There is a significantly different experience waiting for you in our Hygiene Department! We have incorporated a new technology that means comfort in the chair and a really high level of “clean” in the mouth, above and below the gum line.
It’s a bit of a trick to get into every nook and crevice that can house and protect bacteria. And, of course, bacteria don’t want to be removed! Their plan is to survive and build for the future! Working with the biofilm in the mouth, they form a protective coating called dental plaque. This is resistive to anything toxic to bacteria and even the body’s immune defenses. It is estimated – because it is difficult to actually count them – that in a 1 mm coating of plaque weighing about 1 mg – there can be upward to 200 million bacteria, all releasing toxins into your mouth that irritate the gums. Not a pleasant thought! Left to their own devices, you end up with swollen and bleeding gums that are tender to the touch.
Plaque that remains in place too long becomes a more resistive tartar or calculus. And with continued residence, the bacteria can mutate into more harmful anaerobic forms and migrate to other parts of the body, taxing the immune system and reducing health potential.
At the tartar/calculus stage you don’t have the tools at home to handle it, which makes the dental hygienist indispensable at this point. They are trained, they have a vantage point to better see where to clean, and they have a series of tools that can remove tartar, plaque, calculus, biofilm, etc.
The first removal option is the curette, a surgical tool used in a scraping motion to separate the calculus from the tooth surface. If your gums are already swollen this can’t be that great of a sensation! Plus, the size of the instrument prevents it from reaching some of the smaller surfaces.
The second option is to use an electronically produced vibration that is delivered through a dental instrument tip which is placed against the tooth calculus for removal. This is a high frequency vibration. Water is introduced through the tip to keep things cool and wash away the debris.
And then there is the AIR-FLOW Master Piezon FT-200 developed by Electro Medical Systems. (EMS) This is advanced technology now available with all three Hygienists at Natural Dentistry.
Here is what one patient said about his recent hygiene visit:
“The new treatment produced, no only the cleanest feeling I’ve had during a cleaning but also it was far less painful than previous treatments. My nerves are sensitive and even a sonic cleaning will send stabs of pain into my mouth. This cleaning was almost pain free. I have a great taste in my mouth. Very recommended!”
The AIR-FLOW Master Piezon.
The AIR-FLOW Master Piezon, is a precision Swiss made desktop device offering the Hygienist three different tools to reach into and remove plaque, resistive calculus and stains from even the smallest most recessed areas, without injuring the gums or scratching the tooth surface.
AIR-FLOW Master Piezon in use.
The AIR-FLOW method Involves projecting a jet of compressed air, water and fine powder particles on the surface of the tooth to polish the surface and remove debris. Two powders are available, sodium bicarbonate and a glyciene based power that is 1/5th as abrasive making it possible to clean below the gum line in pockets up to 5 mm. Plaque, soft deposits and colorations disappear quickly and painlessly with a just five second pass with the hand piece. A perio-FLOW nozzle tip is used below the gums to reduce air pressure allowing for a safe application of the air water mixture into the pocket.
You will enjoy this experience with the AIR-FLOW Master Piezon. It makes air polishing reliable and efficient and delivers patient comfort as it eliminates the use of curettes and makes no noise!
The third tool on the AIR-FLOW Master delivers the original Piezon scaling method that removes hardened calculus while delivering maximum protection for the gums and connecting tissue. Unlike other methods the EMS AIR-FLOW MASTER delivers controlled oscillating action aligned with the tooth surface. This is different from other scalers that apply the oscillating action that is angular to the tooth surface and therefore causes pain and discomfort. The new hand piece delivers 32000 movements per second with intelligent feedback eliminating aggressive power output or noise.
The convenience of having all the tools available, delivering superior comfort and a more perfect cleaning, makes the bacteria scream and the patients sing! Make an appointment with our top notch hygienists and experience super cleanliness and the positive health effects it brings.
